Brad Dechter Octet

The Brad Dechter Octet
is an exciting new group featuring luminaries of the Los Angeles jazz scene
as well as the compositions and arrangements of its leader. Featuring the versatile instrumentation of alto sax, tenor sax, bari sax, trumpet, trombone, piano, bass and drums, the music is an exciting blend of mainstream be-bop a la Charlie Parker and Miles Davis, etc. and the swinging styles made popular by Ellington and Basie.

In addition to the leader’s music, the group also performs works of saxophonist/composers Oliver Nelson, George Coleman and the Octet’s own Roger Neumann and Frank Bennett.  Adding a special excitement to the group is the addition of vocalist Maureen Dechter, whose versatile style encompasses energetic belting swing to intimate heartfelt ballads which grab the heartstrings of her listeners.

The octet’s members’ combined resumé reads like a Who’s Who of the jazz and popular world, including performances with Count Basie, Woody Herman, Benny Goodman, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughn, Gerry Mulligan, Barbra Streisand, Sammy Davis Jr., etc.

Gary Foster is featured on alto sax, clarinet and flute;
Roger Neumann on tenor sax, clarinet, flute and arrangements;
Brad Dechter on bari sax, alto sax, clarinet, flute and arrangements;
Les Benedict on trombone, bass trumpet, euphonium and tuba;
Bob Summers on trumpet and flugelhorn;
Mike Lang on piano;
Chuck Nenneker on acoustic bass;
Frank Bennett on drums and percussion.

The Octet is contemplating its first album recording project and is planning concert appearances in California in the upcoming year.
